Havest
2019 Havest was arguably one of the top growing
seasons on record in Sonoma County. Despite a warm February, the 2019 growing
season started cooler than the past few vintages. A cool spring meant bloom
lasted longer than usual but fruit set was consistent and the ripening was even. We had a relatively mild summer with plenty
of the famous Russian River morning fog. A cooling period in late July and the absence of the late
summer heat spikes created long and even ripening. These conditions allow our Pinot to mature gracefully and develop great
flavors. We harvested at the peak of ripeness.
Vineyards
For our inaugural Pinot Noir Rosé we used one of our favorite
Estate Pinot Noir Vineyards, Rasmussen, located between Santa Rosa and
Forestville. Rasmussen is gently sloped with a bit of clay in the soil. The
wine from this vineyard displays bright fruit and floral notes-perfect for a
refreshing Rosé with Pinot Noir flavors.
Winemaking
The fully ripe Pinot Noir grapes were night harvested and crushed
into stainless steel tanks. After settling for 48 hours, we racked the juice
and added RC212 yeast to start the fermentation. After fermentation, we gently
processed for hot and cold stability to ensure a fresh, bright Rosé.
Food Pairing
The 2019 Korbel Pinot Noir Rosé is a bright, fruit forward, dry
wine that pairs with a wide variety of foods. We suggest pairing with cheesy
appetizers, sushi, spicy Thai, fish, or cranberry pork loin. Enjoy!
